The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, has expressed its readiness to drag the Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah, to the International Court of Justice at The Hague over alleged hate speech.
CNG’s threat stemmed from Kukah’s Christmas Day message in which he tore into President Muhammadu Buhari accusing him of nepotism and serving northern interest at the detriment of the nation.
The message has sparked mixed reactions and split opinions.
Weighing into it, the group in a statement its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman released, said Kukah’s message was inciting and capable of setting the country on fire adding that they would drag the Bishop before the International Criminal Court, ICC.
The statement reads in part, “We therefore give notice to Kukah and his fellow instigators and perpetrators of all hate crimes that the CNG is ready and willing to take matters to the International Criminal Court for redress where local remedies could not be provided against their irresponsible actions.”
