Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Lagos State High Court sitting at Igbosere on Monday remanded the four suspects who allegedly kidnapped the traditional ruler of Iba Town, Oba Goriola Oseni in prison custody.
The defendants who were remanded are, Duba Furejo, Ododomo Isaiah, Reuben Anthony and Yerin Fresh.
They were arraigned on eight count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, robbery, armed robbery , felony and kidnapping preferred against them by the Lagos State Government.
The Lagos State Prosecuting counsel Attorney General of Lagos State and Commissioner of Justice Adeniji Kazeem SAN, told the court that the defendants and others who are still at large conspired to commit the alleged offences on July 16, 2016.
The offences was committed at Iba Town at the traditional ruler’s palace on the said date.
He said that the defendants allegedly murdered two people, a security guard Sunday Eniola Okanlawon and a commercial motorcycle rider, Joseph Okeke.
According to the prosecutor the accused conspired to commit murder, which is contrary to Sections 233 of the criminal law of Lagos State Ch, C17, Vol 3 laws of Lagos State 2015.
Kazeem also alleged that the defendants attempted to murder the monarch’s wife, Olori Abosede Oseni.
The AG, also said that the defendants while armed with guns robbed Abosede of her mobile phone.
“With intent to commit felony the defendants conspired with others at large to kidnap Oba Yishau Goriola Oseni at the Oba’s Palace, Iba Town Lagos”. He said.
The AG said that the offence of attempted murder is contrary to Section 230, of the criminal law of Lagos State, Ch C17, Vol 3, Lagos State 2015.
According to him, the offence of armed robbery is contrary to section 299, 297 (2) (b) and felony to wit kidnap contrary to section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State, Ch. C17 Vol. 3, laws of Lagos State 2015.
After taking their plea of not guilty to the offences levelled against them, the AG, applied that the defendants should be remanded in prison custody and asked for a trial date.
The first, second and fourth defendants’ counsel Chief Selowei Baidi and the third defendant’s counsel, J. O Eguaroje were present in court.
However Justice Taiwo adjourned the commencement of the trial to November 4, 11 and 18 .
While speaking to newsmen after the arraignment of the defendants, the Arttorney General, expressed the resolve of the present administration to rid the State of all forms of criminality, stating that his office would work closely with security agencies to ensure that all cases of kidnapping, cultism, rape, sexual and domestic violence crimes are prosecuted to logical conclusions.
He added: “The swift commencement of the trial of the suspects in the kidnap of the Oniba is a strong signal by the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode that it is not business as usual for criminals. If you commit a crime, we will find you and prosecute you no matter how long it takes,” Kazeem said.
He assured that the administration was determined to halt the scourge of kidnapping, cultist killing, raping and murder.
