Ex-International Austin Okocha has disclosed that former Germany National team goalkeeper, Oliver Kahn, disliked him following the wonder goal he scored against him (Kahn) in a Bundesliga fixture between Eintracht Frankfurt and Karlsruhe in 1993.
Leading up to the goal, Okocha dribbled the entire back-line of Karlsruhe before slotting the ball past Kahn to secure a 3-1 win.
Speaking about the goal at a forum organised by Startimes to celebrate German Bundesliga, he said, “Oliver Kahn does not like me. You media guys made it so big that he takes it personal. But it wasn’t personal for me because I was just doing my job. I never meant to hold on to the ball that long, it just happened that he was at the receiving end but I am grateful for that goal because people can still identify me with something in Germany and that’s my greatest joy because I know that I haven’t been forgotten.”
Recently Kahn reminisced about Okocha’s goal after 23 years on his twitter page.
“Exactly 23 years is the sensational goal from Jay-Jay Okocha today ago – and I’m still dizzy …,” kahn tweeted.
The goal was voted as 1993 Goal of the year by viewers of Sportschau (an ARD German TV sports programme).
