The Olugbense ruling house that lost out in the legal battle for the Olofa of Offa stool in Kwara State, said the recent arrest of judges over alleged corruption vindicated its earlier allegation that the judiciary is a house of sleaze.
It would be recalled that in late June, the Supreme Court affirmed the appointment of Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Okikiola Esuwoye II, as the Olofa of Offa in Kwara in a judgement unanimously delivered by Justice Walter Onnoghen, Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, Nwali Ngwuta, Mary Peter-Odili and Amiru Sanusi.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, Prince Rauf Keji, a retired Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration said, “in an earlier petition dated 19th August 2016 signed by Alhaji Saka Adeyemo as Magaji Olugbense, Alhaji Raimi Keji as Secretary and Prince Saka Keji we had demanded the investigation which they tried to administratively cover.
“The Supreme Court has become a supermarket where justice is sold to the rich and nothing for the poor. They asserted that the poor need not seek justice before any court. The latest development in the sector had reinforced our initial allegations.
Asked why they still want to pursue the matter, Prince Keji said, “the history of many generations of our family and people of Offa has been freshly written by the judgement. The Supreme Court went out of its way to say that Olugbense ruling house that founded Offa does not exist again. Issue is, how does someone who does not exist again come before the court?
“That was why we demanded from the NJC to set up a committee including the EFCC, ICPC, the Presidency and themselves to investigate those judges. We heard how the said monies were transferred to them using a retired judge as conduit. This has made them to create a crisis where none had existed.
“The issues they determined in the said July 2016 judgment were not before them. One fact is, the Oloffa of Offa stool can never and will never be complete with the Olugbense ruling house which the Supreme Court tried to re-write. Offa has a history which is over 600 years having been founded in 1397 by our forefathers.”
