The Ogun State Police Command has declared a Sagamu based businessman and proprietor of Totalcare School, Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr. Olusegun Ayeni, wanted for alleged involvement in same sex relationship with another man.
Multiple police sources stated that both men were declared wanted and have repeatedly failed to honour police invitations from investigators and believed to be on the run.
Same sex relationship is against Nigerian laws and attracts 14 years imprisonment upon conviction.
Our reporter gathered that trouble started for Mr. Olusegun Ayeni when he suspended two siblings who are students in his school following failure to pay school fees. It was learnt that the parents of the suspended students tried several times to appeal to the school proprietor to allow them some time to raise the school fees but the appeals fell on deaf ears.
It was further gathered that unknown to Mr. Ayeni, the father of the students (name withheld) had dug up some dirty secrets of the school proprietor, including his sexual preference and reported him to the police.
A source at Totalcare School told our reporter that Ayeni went underground after the news of his alleged gay practice became public knowledge both at the school and in the community where he resides. Ayeni was consequently declared wanted after he failed to honour Police invitation to present himself and answer some questions and clear his name.
During a visit to the school, our reporter gathered that Mr. Ayeni and his alleged partner are well known to staff members of the school.
A staff confided in our reporter that “Proprietor have not been to the school since the whole story of being a gay started to fly around even before policemen started coming around; and they have been here several times since. We heard that our boss and the other man have been declared wanted,” the source, who is a teacher in the school told our reporter.
Continuing, the source who pleaded anonymity added that “We know that proprietor and the other man were quite close, they do almost everything together, including lunch and even social parties; but no one suspected that they were lovers.”
When contacted the police confirmed that Ayeniand his alleged gay partner were invited to come forward and clear their names but they were yet to do so.
“We have left several messages at the school and left an invitation for him to come forward at his residence but he has refused to come down to the police station. We believe he is currently on the run but we shall get him and make him face the wrath of the law,“ a Police source told our correspondent at the Sagamu Area Command, adding, “We know there are many men like Mr. Ayeni in the society but we shall not rest until we are able to rid the state of such negative influence.”
Our correspondent also learnt that the community vigilante in Sagamu have been enlisted in the man hunt for Mr Ayeni even as they vowed not to relent in their pursuit of him until he is apprehended and handed over to the police.
At the family compound of the Ayenis, a member of his family who does not want his name in prints lamented that Olusegun Ayeni has brought so much shame to their family name and condemned gay practice.
