Open letter to Gov. Ugwuanyi on Neglect, Relegation of Nkanu East, by Patrick Uwaezuoke Mba

Nkanu East local government area is one of the five(5)local government areas of Enugu East senatorial zone,  but unfortunately, the most neglected & relegated in all facet of infrastructural development, despite her huge human & agricultural potentials.

Nkanu East local government area, was created in the year 1996, and twenty five years, down the lane, Nkanu East does not have a General hospital, what you have at Amagunze, is a glorified medical dispenser, already overtaken by shrubs & grasses.

The access road to the supposedly local government Secretariat, has been dusty & rendered impassable since its inception & not commonstance  to this dispensation, but a culmination  of many desertions, due mainly, to lack of Sterling leadership & neglects, by successive administrations, in unjustly excluding Nkanu East, in her major appointments & elective templates.

Today,  information on the public domain, indicates that the operational base of Nkanu East  local government, has been shifted to  LIBERTY ESTATE, Phase 11,  Independence layout, Enugu, due to the hostility of the operational environment, for a seamless services to the people & one cannot blame this misnomer alone, on the current chairman, for the path he has chosen, based on the dire dearth of habitable infrastructures, within the local government area precincts, but most worrisome is the humongous financial implication, of paying for a private Secretariat, considering the  enormous paucity of fund, facing the  Nkanu East local government & what developmental strides, such funds, would have achieved for us.

While on the other hand, Nkanu West, where the east was carved from, boasts of such facilities like the Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) permanent site,  The Law School, at AGBANI, the Airforce Secondary School, the University of Nigeria Teaching hospital (UNTH) at Ozalla, Plethora of banks, Police Area Command, an on going water project & other sundry facilities, that makes life worth living, Nkanu East local government area, is bereft of any infrastructure, not even a functional post office, completely  forgotten & relegated to quasi medieval template of living & life.

In Nkanu East local government area, there is no tertiary institution, both state nor federal, there is no federal representation, the only two slots available, in both the Senate & federal house of Representatives, are taken up by our compatriots, from Nkanu West, in persons of  Distinguished Senator Chimaroke Nnamani(Former governor of Enugu state, 1999- 2007) and Honourable Nnolim Nnaji, both from AGBANI & Akpugo communities, in Nkanu West, yet, some individuals from the same Nkanu West, who believe in the power of PECUNIARY advantages & the anachronistic law of  the might, are clamouring for the 2023 governorship slot again, after their first stint in 1999, so as to continue with their  spree marginalization & subjugations of Nkanu East.

Let it also be noted, that in the year 1999, when the current  rotational governorship arrangement, was muted, it started from Enugu East senatorial zone, and that our compatriots from Nkanu West, took the first shot, thereby, foreclosing the 2023 governorship contestation, for  Nkanu West local government area, hinged on Equity & the fundamental ethos  of the rotational trajectory.

We are therefore confident, that our leaders, especially, our ebulient & visionary Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, will rise up to the occasion & do the needful, when the time comes.

This epistle becomes imperative & inevitable, based on so many unconscionable  & undercurrent manoeuvres  & intrigues, going on, by people, who are hoping on their Power of might,  rather than  any known doctrine of Equity & fair play, for even development of NKANULAND, to contest the 2023 governorship election.

Let it also add up, that in the entire geographical space, called Nkanu East, there is no governmental presence apart from a  desolate  & ignominous police station, at Amagunze, that has more proximity & relevance with Akpugo in Nkanu West, than with Ugbawka, Nara, Mburubu, Nkerefi, Owoh, Akpawfu,  Ama Nkanu, Oruku, Amaechi Idodo, Nomeh, Ubahu & others, whose accessibility to the aforementioned, will take nothing less than two(2)hours, incase of emergency, due to none direct connectivity, as you have to first, get to AGBANI, before you will embark on this painstaking journey to these places.

It’s also very pertinent, at this juncture, to reiterate that any attempt to deny the Nkanu East local government area, of the 2023 governorship slot, is a further deepening of the existing subjugations, which has striped Nkanu East, of all paraphernalia  & nomenclatures of governance, whence, it will continue to groan under desolation & abandonment.

I therefore, call on all sons & daughters of Nkanu East & indeed, all conscionable & conscientious Ndi Nkanu, to stand up against this established travesty, as an injustice to one!, is an injustice, to all.

I am also using this forum, to appreciate & thank  our peace loving Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, on his epoch remark, in the course of the last but one,  Enugu East senatorial  Rally, where he assured all, that ‘EQUITY & FAIR PLAY’, shall be the fulcrum, of his decision, on who succeeds him, it was indeed, a remarkable submission of hope, for the forgotten people of Nkanu East.

*God bless Enugu state!

*God bless Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi!!

*God bless NKANULAND!!!.
