One feared dead on Tuesday as confrontation broke out between members of the civil society organisations and pro-government protesters over the recent amendment of the 2007 pension benefits of ex-governors and their deputies in which N300 million worth of choice houses were approved for Adams Oshiomhole and Dr. Pius Odubu, as well as other mouth-watering largess.

A group of protesters averse to the new provison, under the Edo Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and another group of protesters, who were in support of the lawmakers’ resolution engaged in a free for all fight at the Anthony Enahoro House of Assembly Complex.

In the fight that lasted about an hour before peace was restored about nineteen people sustained injuries while a man was feared dead.

Edo State Government in a statement it released to deny media report that the government sponsored thugs to attack protesting members of the civil society groups, said, “There is no iota of truth in the report as government will not, in any way, attempt to gag the people’s freedom of expression, association and movement as enshrined in the constitution.
