Oyo ethnic crisis: Two matcheted in fresh herders attack

Ibarapa area of Oyo State where ethnic tension between the Fulani and their Yoruba host is high has reported recorded another round of violence.

Ibarapa has been in the news following the sacking of the Sarkin Fulani of Igangan, Alhaji Salihu Abdulkadir, his households and herders by angry mob of Yoruba extraction who attributed the spate of crimes including kidnaping for ransom and rape to the criminal elements among their northern guests.

The attackers set Abdulkadir’s residence and cars ablaze on the grounds that he was complicit in the crime after a Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Igboho, set the stage for the attack.

Since then, residents of Ibarapa have been living in fear of a reprisal. It was said a part of their fears came to pass on Saturday in Oke-Oofe in Ibarapa North Local Government Area.

Herders reportedly struck at about 1.00 am, matcheting Adekola Adeyemi and Jamiu Saedu. The victims, who were said to be 65-year old and 30 years old respectively were said to be have been left with injuries.
