Governor Seriake Dickson was absent at a women empowerment programme organised by the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Thursday.
The first lady’s visit for the event at Samson Siasia Stadium disrupted commercial activities in the state as traffic stood still in most parts of the city.
Gov. Dickson who was conspicuously absent was represented by his deputy, Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd.).
It would be recalled that the governor and the first lady fell out after Mrs. Jonathan refused to support Gov. Dickson’s re-election bid. Instead, it was said that she is rooting for the governorship ambition of Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Matters, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa in the state.
Last month in the wake of the conflict, Dame Patience Jonathan who was controversially appointed a permanent secretary in the state civil service in July 2012 by Gov Dickson resigned her appointment.
