President Muhammadu Buhari has come under attack following his nomination of his Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) labelled the nomination as “highly provocative assault on the nation’s constitution and democratic process,” according to the party National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, at a press conference on Tuesday.

A chieftain of the party and former senator, Dino Melaye in a statement he released reckoned that Onochie’s nomination was a breach of the constitution and an insult to Nigerians, adding that he would mobilise the public against it.

“I hereby call on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately rescind her nomination forwarded to the Senate today (yesterday) otherwise I will mobilise Nigerians to challenge this decision, which is unconstitutional,” Melaye said.
