Christmas came early for police officers deployed to Osun State for Saturday’s governorship election in the state as they received various sums of financial windfall from the federal government as Special Duty Allowance.
The sums: N50, 000 each for policemen from the rank of constable to sergeant, N120, 000 for those within the rank of Inspector, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police while each of the eight Commissioners of Police deployed for the exercise were N250, 000 richer.
The lucky cops, who are18, 426 in number, received the sums through their salary accounts.
“The allowances of the officers deployed for the election have been paid. The allowances were paid into their accounts,” Punch quoted a police source as saying.
Meanwhile the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke reportedly said there was more to the payment of the allowance by the federal government than meet the eyes, claiming it was an inducement to compromise security operatives.
