Police reacts to report of officer’s killing for POS Robbery

Rumour that one of the two Point of Sales robbers, Ogbobe Benjamin, killed in Enugu State was a police officer has elicited reaction from the police authorities.

Two robbers who were into POS operation were lynched on Wednesday along Bissala Road, Independence Layout as angry mob set them ablaze.

Upon the killings, rumour went round that that Benjamin was a serving policeman in New Haven Police Division.

Reacting to the claim, the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, via a statement the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, released, said, Benjamin had long been dismissed from service for misbehaviour.

In it, the Commissioner warned the general public against taking the law into their hands, saying, “No matter the circumstance, resorting to self-help to carry out acts of jungle justice in such a manner, without recourse to extant laws and the criminal administration system, is totally condemnable and tantamount to the commission of a crime in itself.”
