The Imo State government said Senator Rochas Okorochas was let go by the police because he had a health problem.
Okorochas and Gov. Hope Uzodimma are having running battle highlighted by the sealing of Royal Palm Estate by the state government.
The government alleged that estate which the former governor’s wife, Nkechi laid claim to was that of the state, alleging that tax payers’ money was used to build it during the time of Okorocha as governor.
The duel got to a head at the weekend with the immediate past governor now Senator alongside his wife and supporters’ attempt to unseal it met with opposition by Uzodimma’s supporters leading to violence and the arrest of the former with fourteen of his aides.
While his aides were arraigned in court on Monday, he was released by the police earlier on Sunday at around 11.30pm due to health issue.
This was according to the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba in an interview with Punchng.com.
“Okorocha was released on Sunday by the police on medical grounds. The man was purging and stooling consistently, the police had to release on medical grounds to enable him to take care of his health. His release doesn’t mean he will not answer his case,” Emelumba told the paper.
