Police tracking equipment long down – Report

Report has emerged that key tracking equipment used by police to combat crime are down.

Punchng said it gathered from highly-placed police sources that the equipment deployed to track down criminals has ceased to work imperiling the efforts of the force to nab kidnappers, bandits and terrorists.

The inactivity of the equipment stemmed from failure to pay subscription fees by the police authorities to the company which owns the security gadgets. The non-payment of the subscription reportedly dates back to 2015 but the company was gracious to allow the police enjoyed the service until this year’s January.

“From what I gathered, subscription fees are meant to be paid yearly but you won’t believe that the police have not paid since 2015. Initially, the company gave us a grace period but they have now cut off the police completely. We now rely solely on DSS and NSA office. It’s a terrible situation and it has worsened the insecurity in the country. The Police Trust Fund promised to help but we have not seen any action yet,” the paper quoted an unnamed Police Commissioner as saying.
