A woman, Rosemary Chukwu was abandoned by her lover after she got pregnant and was looking for help. But she found help in the wrong place when she met one Uwandu Kelechi who came to her aid and relocated her to Issele-Azgba Town in Delta State.
After Rosemarry settled down in the sleepy town, Kelechi unfolded his plan to her, which was to sell her unborn baby after delivery. It was alleged that he took her to a medical doctor, one Dr. Daniel Ikebuilo, the medical director in charge of Ikemefune Hospital and Maternity Ngbuike Umunachi in Anambra State whose roles were to keep mom and baby safe, and get a buyer for the newborn.
While parading the suspects yesterday in Asaba, DSP Charles Muka, acting police public relations officer in the state who confirmed the arrest of the medical doctor and other suspects, told journalists that the suspects were arrested on a tipoff upon report by one Kingsley Mordi, chairman of Issele-Azagba Vigilante Group and the pregnant lady.
Muka said that it was later discovered that Kelechi was a member of a child trafficking syndicate and that he was making effort to sell the unborn baby for N70, 000. This prompted the victim to raise the alarm, leading to his arrest.
The police acting spokesman disclosed that the suspect has confessed to the crime and mentioned Dr. Ikebuilo as his accomplice.
