A lecturer in the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, at the University of Calabar has died from heart attack after presenting his manifesto for the position of the dean of the post graduate school.
Prof. Martins Isika suffered a cardiac arrest following his busy schedule between his primary assignment in the university and his campaign for the office of the Faculty of Agriculture Dean.
His death occurred at the Senate Chambers of the institution on Friday at about 2pm shortly after reading his manifesto to nearly 300 delegates that were to have voted.
Isika, who is in his 50s, only became a professor some six months ago.
When contacted, Public Relations Officer of UNICAL, Mr. Eyo Effiong, confirmed the incident.
He said, “It was a tragedy that the man should die that way after attaining such height in his educational pursuit and was giving his best to the development of young people in the university.”
