The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Prof. Labode Popoola is in the eye of the storm for buying a Sport Utility Vehicle worth N69m for the university’s Governing Council chairman, Mallam Yusuf Ali (SAN).
The institution’ workers’ unions consisting of the Senior Staff Association, National Association of Academic Technologists and Non Academic Staff Union, on Wednesday took to the streets in Osogbo to protest against the buying of the car accusing the VC of corruption.
The placard-bearing protesters started off their protest at the varsity campus and rounded it off at Governor’s Office during which they expressed their annoyance at Prof. Popoola calling the VC names, and asking for his dismissal.
However, the embattled VC called on the media to disregard the call for his removal by the union leaders claiming the motive was self-serving.
“For how long will the Nigerian media celebrate the shenanigans of these unscrupulous few? If you care to know, UNIOSUN workers are not fighting me. We are dealing with a bunch of self-serving individuals trying to evade disciplinary process, and now hiding under unionism,” he told Punch.
