Professor Zainab Abiola, a lawyer to suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, said the refusal of the Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami to appear before the Justice Ayo Salami-led panel probing the embattled anti-corruption czar was an insult to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Malami was subpoenaed by the panel to testify against Magu but declined the invitation alleging that his appearance is inconsistent with the country’s laws.
Abiola in an interview she granted Punchng.com tore into the Justice Minister saying he disrespected Buhari and a judge in the vein of Salami by refusing to honour the panel’s invitation.
“The AGF’s refusal to honour summons was a slap on the President because Justice Salami was empowered by the President to do what he is doing. Such actions should warrant a sack. It is obvious that he has no evidence against Magu and that is why the entire case is crumbling.
“I cannot sit and watch a political appointee like Malami disrespect a jurist in the standing of Justice Salami,” she told the paper.
