Daughter of a federal lawmaker was burnt to death in a raging inferno that gutted a secondary school in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Saturday.
Hon. Hassan Adamu Abunabo (pictured), a House of Representatives member who represents BIRNIWA/GURIKIRIKASAMMA Federal Constituency in the lower chamber lost his daughter, Rukayya Adamu Hassan Abunabo in the fire incident which started in the middle of the night.
The 14-year-old was said to be the only casualty.
According the state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dr Muhammad Gidado, the inferno started at about 23.30pm Saturday night in one of the school’s female hostels of Excellence Private School located at Gabari Quarters.
He said: “It’s sad to inform you that a female student died in the inferno and the hostel was completely destroyed, with property worth millions of naira all destroyed in the inferno.”
A Peoples Democratic Party member, the bereaved, Hon. Abunabo was one-time Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government.
