Muslim faithful in Daura, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari, in Katsina State, has been ruled out of next week’s Eid-Fitr celebration following its cancellation by the Emirate Council on account of insecurity.

The development was contained in a statement Mallam Abdulmumini Salihu (Danejin Daura) released on behalf of Daura Emirate in which it was said that the occasion would be used to commiserate with the government and families of victims either abducted or killed including the district head, Alhaji Musa Umar-Uba, an in-law of the President, who has been in the custody of kidnappers for weeks.

It said, in place of the celebration, the emirate explained that the usual two raka’ats would be observed after which supplication will be made to Allah to stop the ugly trend.

Recall that Katsina has been under siege of marauding gangs of armed men culminating in some residents relocating to neighbouring country, Niger.
