LASTMA Officer killed by reckless motorist

A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA officer, Samson Olawale Akinmade has met his death at the hands of a reckless motorist in the Mile 12 area of Ketu, Lagos.

Late Akinmade, according to LASTMA General Manager LASTMA, Engr. Olajide Oduyoye, was knocked down by the motorist who drove a blue-black Opel Space Bus with registration number AAA 74 GG on Wednesday.

Oduyoye in a statement he released, said Akinmade, who joined the service of the traffic agency in 2019 was killed in the line of duty while controlling traffic at Demurin Street junction inwards Mile 12.

The General Manger narrated that the killer driver mistook his victim’s advice not to disrupt vehicular movement having parked on the road to pick passengers as an attempt to arrest him and in a bid to escape apprehension rammed into the officer, killing him in the process.

Oduyoye’s word, “The driver assumed that he would be apprehended for obstructing traffic and sped off, knocking down the officer against the concrete culvert on the service lane and dragging him for about seven metres. He tried to escape through a street which turned out to be closed but was eventually arrested and handed over to the Police at Alapere along with his vehicle.”
