Saudi recruitment of doctors: DSS arrest journalist, disperse participants

The Department of State Services, DSS, on Thursday, forced the hands of organisers of the ongoing recruitment of Nigerian doctors by Saudi Arabia to suspend the exercise.

The recruitment held at the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja saw the venue filled to the brim with several doctors seeking greener pastures in the kingdom in attendant. The moment made headlines and was also captured on video and posted on social media drawing the Nigerian government scathing remarks.

Report emerged that the federal government did not take lightly to it with the DSS storming the Ladi Kwali Hall of the hotel and ensured that of Thursday’s did not hold.

The secret police also arrested a journalist with the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, Marcus Fatunde but later released him, as per

 “When I came here, we saw the DSS operatives dispersing the people that came for the interview and before we knew it, everywhere had been scattered.

“A journalist with the ICIR, Marcus Fatunde, was also arrested, but he has been released,” the paper quoted an eyewitness as saying.
