Soldier beat up female police officer on traffic duty

An irate soldier has beaten up a female police officer on traffic duty in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. 

The incident happened on Saturday around Mobil Junction on Murtala Mohammed Way where the police officer whose name and that of her attacker were not stated in the account by The Nation. 

The report said the female cop suffered an eye injury from the beating with one of her eyes left bleeding. 

The culmination of the attack, according to the publication, was a face-off between some police officers and their soldier counterparts leading to the road becoming impassable and heavy traffic.    

Relating the genesis of crisis, the report said, trouble started when the female police officer directing traffic at the spot stopped the army officer who rode a black Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number AGL  175 HA. 

Quoting the paper verbatim: “The army officer, who at the time was not in uniform, was said to have dealt heavy punches on the police woman, after which he fled in his car. 

“An attempt made by another female police officer to take pictures of the errant soldiers was said to have infuriated another female soldier who assaulted the police woman.”
