The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says some governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, like him, under the cover of darkness to visit President Muhammadu Buhari.
Wike had congratulated Buhari after the tribunal affirmed his election. The congratulation was met with dismy given his criticism of the president and the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The governor in defence of his action while speaking at the funeral service in honour of late Madam Blessing Awuse, mother of a PDP chieftain in the state, Sergeant Awuse, at the St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Emohua, on Thursday said he was only being forthright unlike some of his colleagues in the main opposition who have ties with Buhari but concealed it.
He said, “I am sure all of you are surprised that I congratulated Buhari. Is it not good for me to congratulate him than to go to his house in the night? Many PDP governors go to see him in his house in the night. I have never gone and I will not go. I won’t go.”
