Soyinka’s son denies rumoured herders’ attack on dad’s residence

Dr Olaokun Soyinka, son of Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has denied the rumoured attack on his father’s residence by criminal herders.

Rumour that the Senior Soyinka’s house at Kemta Housing in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital was attacked by militia Fulanis was trending online yesterday with video of a police station where the case was said to have been reported posted on social media.

But Olaokun, a former Commissioner for Health in the state has rebutted the claim and provided insight into what took place.

He said, some cows were actually spotted near his father’s house but there was no attack of any such urging the public to disregard the rumour.

According to him, “This is not true, please do not circulate further. Help to debunk it. It is an attempt to encourage discord. Although some cows were spotted, neither Prof. nor his house was attacked by anyone.

“I have confirmed this today (yesterday) directly myself from him (Prof. Soyinka). Do not fall for this attempt, whatever the motive, to further inflame this problematic situation.”
