Teacher charged with exam malpractice


A teacher, Charles Adetunji, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on two counts of examination malpractice and conspiracy.

The 40 year-old suspect was alleged of aiding a student to write her West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations (WAEC).

Prosecuting counsel, Benson Emuerhi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 16  at Meiran Community Junior High School , Meiran, Lagos.

ASP Emuerhi said that the defendant assisted a teeange girl to solve all the questions on Literature in English during WAEC by  sending the answers to her mobile phone.

According to him, the invigilator caught the girl using her phone while writing the paper.

He said that when her phone was checked, the answers to the questions were there.

ASP Emuerhi told the court the girl confirmed that the defendant sent them to her.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until December 5.
