Terrorism: Presidency gives condition for Pantami’s removal

The presidency said embattled Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, would not have its backing if he was embroiled in a certificate forgery scandal.

Pantami has been in the news for wrong reason after video of him in the past speaking highly of slain terrorist, Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda went viral sparking calls for his resignation or removal.

Consequently, the Presidency defended him and are at it again as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, for the second time said the minister did no wrong in an interview he granted Channels Television.

Shehu when told by his interviewer that the presidency let Kemi Adeosun go but was quick to defend Pantami, said if his(Pantami’s) case was like that of the disgraced ex-Finance Minister, he would have been treated same way.

According to him, “If Pantami had forged certificate before coming into office, the attitude (of the presidency) would have been different. “We don’t remain in the same position. Don’t assume that things cannot change. If the one who created you gives it to you that from being bad, you can become good, what says you should deny some other persons this right?”
