It seems there is no end in sight to the controversy trailing comment by Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on godfatherism.

El-Rufai had at a function said he has the pathways to end godfatherism in politics, gloating about how he allegedly achieved it in Kaduna and adding that it could be replicated in Lagos.

The governor’s statement stirred up a hornet’s nest among loyalists of the national leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who laid into him.

el-Rrufai while receiving  the campaign team of the leading aspirant for the Speakership of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, an unapologetic Tinubu’s acolyte, said his statement on the godfatherism issue was deliberately misconstrued by those living off the former Lagos governor.

He said, “That was not an attack on Asiwaju, it was a generic statement, but the whole thing took a media frenzy because to some people Asiwaju is a meal ticket.

“Let me tell you, because of that, some people started confessing to me that Asiwaju should be dealt with. They said Asiwaju wants to finish you, he has been abusing you, we should finish him by finishing his man, Femi (Gbajabiamila).”
