A 16-year-old, simply identified as Master Ogunleye, has caused the death of a trader, Mrs. Tuale Iwejim, after hitting her with his mum’s car.
The incident happened at Arena Shopping Mall, Oshodi, Lagos State where late Mrs Iwejim had gone to buy items for her business with the teenager accompanied his mother, Mrs. Victoria Ogunleye, who was there to shop, Punchng.com wrote.
The report said it happened that Mrs. Ogunleye left her son in her Sports Utility Vehicle with her car key inside her handbag when he decided to test his driving skill after someone complained of obstructing traffic with the car.
However, his bid to repark the car by way of putting it on reverse caused the death of Mrs. Iwejim.
The deceased was reportedly walking to where she was to buy goods for her shop when she was crushed by the car and rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where she died on Thursday, September 4, 2020.
“While the boy was inside the car, somebody shouted that the vehicle was obstructing traffic and asked the occupant to park well. Instead of him to say he was not the driver, he took the key from the mother’s bag and started driving.
“He managed to engage the gear on drive, but forgot to use the brake. That was how he hit Tuale. While struggling to put it on reverse, he hit her again. She sustained what I will call first degree injuries on both legs from her waist down. The boy also damaged some billboards and structures in the market,” the deceased’s widower was quoted by the paper.
