The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, said ‘two boys’ have been arrested in connection with the death of Flying Officer, Tolulope Arotile, who allegedly died in a freak accident.
NAF’s claim that the 24-year-old died at Air Force base, Kaduna, when a motorist old schoolmate with whom she attended Air Force Secondary School together drove passed her.
The unnamed person out of excitement reversed the car in order to exchange pleasantries with the late Arotile, and in the process hit her with it, causing her death, according to the force.
The official account, has however, been met with disbelief in some quarters including the bereaved family with the deceased’s elder sister, Mrs Daramola Adegboye, who dropped off the late flying officer at the Air Force base only to be told of her death an hour later, calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Apparently, in response to the demand of the distraught family, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in an interview with Punchng.com said two persons are in the custody of the force over Arotile’s death.
“First of all, in my first statement, I said she died from a road traffic accident. I further clarified the nature of the road traffic accident where one of her excited classmates who saw her reversed his car which led to him hitting her and knocking her down. This led to head injuries and a lot of haemorrhaging which ultimately resulted in her death.
“The two boys are in custody and the NAF will do a thorough investigation into the matter. It is a routine process – our own processes that are ongoing because it happened inside a NAF base,” Daramola told the paper.
Ostensibly, the ‘boys’ under arrest are the said old schoolmate and the person with him in the car.
