UNDERGRADUATE DROWNS IN SCHOOL RIVER

An undergraduate of University of Ilorin has died in a drowning tragedy in a river behind the institution’s parks and garden unit.

The victim identified as Onikenku Micheal Atunde, was a 200-level student in the department of Social Science Education and a member of the Man ‘O’ War. It was said that he went swimming on Saturday and raised the alarm when he got into difficulty.

The University’s spokesman, Mr Kunle Akogun said rescue efforts have been launched and the search was still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.

He said the rescue efforts were being coordinated by the Acting Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Nike Ijaiya.

“Medical services have been put on standby since Saturday. Atunde’s next of kin has been contacted,” Akogun stated
