Twenty-four years Hope Olusegun Aroke has been convicted and sentenced to 24 years imprisonment following his involvement in an internet scam that fetched him N25m.
An undergraduate of Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia, Olusegun, who hails from Kogi State, was arrested in late December, 2012 by operatives of the EFCC at 1004 housing estate, Victoria Island, Lagos, after a petition exposing his criminal activities on the internet was written to the anti-corruption agency.
Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja, on Monday handed down the judgment after the court found him guilty of the two charges, obtaining money by false pretence and forgery, and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment on each of the two counts.
The judge ruled that the sentence should run concurrently.
