The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace in Plateau, Kaduna and Bauchi states, has called on the media to support its efforts to end violence.
Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, the commander of OPSH, made the call when officials of Correspondents’ Chapel of Plateau Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited him on Wednesday in Jos.
“When they say the media is the fourth arm of government, it simply means that journalists have key roles to play toward nation-building,” said the military official. “So, we seek further collaboration with you toward ensuring lasting peace in Plateau and Nigeria in general through your various reportage.”
Mr Ali, who doubles as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, maintained that the media had a major role in a peaceful society.
He noted that balanced and professional reportage would further entrench lasting peace in the state and the country.
“Please, I urge you to exhibit a high level of professionalism in your writing. We are ready to provide you with every detail that will enable you to have balanced reports,” added the military officer.
According to him, the military is committed to ending insecurity in Plateau and its environs.
