The Nigerian Correctional Service has explained its decision to transport murder suspect, Chidinma Ojukwu from court in a Toyota Camry.
Chidinam is standing trial for allegedly killing the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Super TV, Usifo Ataga whom they lodged together at a service apartment in Lekki for tryst.
On Monday when the suspect was brought to court, a prison official led her uncuffed into the front seat of a blue Toyota Camry marked EPE 671 BD and whisked her away from the Yaba Magistrates’ Court minutes after her remand by Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo.
A marked difference from other prisoners who left the court premises in green bus.
Fielding question bordering on the special treatment for the murder suspect Prisons PRO Rotimi Oladokun told the paper that there was a good reason for the treatment Miss Ojukwu got.
“It’s not the usual practice. It was a security diversion. It is a high profile case, so it was part of our security diversion. It was just to create a diversion,” Oladokun said.
