Widow whose husband sold land to gas station dies in Thursday’s explosion


One of the casualties of Lagos Black Thursday gas station explosion in Alimosho area of Lagos State is the widow of the deceased person who sold the land to owner(s) of ill-fated Best Roof Gas Station.

Best Roof Gas station located on Cardoso Road, Baruwa in Ipaja area caught fire while a truck was discharging gas officially leaving five persons dead, several persons survived with varying degrees of injuries and about twenty-five buildings including churches burnt.

Report has emerged that one of those, who died is one Mrs.  Mrs. Adebowale, a 55-year-old widow. The deceased’s late husband reportedly sold the land Best Roof Gas is located to the operator(s).

The deceased was caught in the fire, and died on the tomb of her late husband in front of their building after she went into the house to retrieve the money she borrowed from a microfinance bank.

It was gathered that the community leaders objected the siting of the gas station at the location but to no avail.

“This is purely a residential and not an industrial area. In industrial areas, there are materials prepared for such. But we had to wait for about three hours before the fire service got here.

“But we were told that the man had approval from the DPR and the state government. As law-abiding citizens, we became incapacitated. But we knew it would be calamitous,” one of them, Chief Jide Osokoya told newsmen.
