A 40-year-old woman, Mrs Joy Sunday Ebong, has been arrested alongside others for masterminding her husband, Mr. Emmanuel Sampson Ebong’s abduction.

The incident happened in Akwa Ibom where the suspects are currently in detention at the State Police Command.

Six men at the instance of Mrs Ebong stormed the husband’s residence on July 21, 2022 took hold of their victim at gunpoint and ran away with him in abduction.

At their den, under torture and threat to kill him, they demanded a ransom of N10m from him and following negotiation it was reduced to N2m, which he found a way to pay before luck ran out of the suspects at the point of sharing the loot as the police ambushed and arrested them.

Speaking at the Police Command where they were paraded on Friday, having been established that Mrs Ebong was the mover of the crime, she owned up to it and went on to share her motives, alleging that her husband maltreated her and her children, including not sleeping with her.

Her words,  “I arranged for my husband’s kidnapping because, for a long time, he had abandoned me with his children. Even when my father and mother in-laws were alive he abandoned me. He never cared for his children. I engaged in menial jobs such as weeding on people’s farms to feed my children and pay their school fees.

“One of the children finished from secondary school and I approached my husband to plan how to send the son to learn trade since the father refused to send him to university but my husband shunned me. The major reason i arranged for his kidnapping is that my husband refused to have sex with me and does not take care of me and the children.”
