Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on Thursday pleaded to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to give him any Chief Security Officer(CSO), adding that the police high command’s withdrawal of DSP Promise Nwosu exposed him to danger.

Wike made this plea when he hosted Idris at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Lamenting his CSO’s withdrawal, the governor said, “The moment you touch my CSO, you are telling me that you are ready for me. As I sit, I am empty; I have no protection.

“When people start to embarrass the governor, take his CSO without information, it is completely wrong. What you have done is the highest disrespect to the Office of the Governor.

“I am pleading with you, my life is important. I will take any CSO you bring to me. This is a matter of security and protection; it is not what you treat with levity.”

He urged the police chief to transfer the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Operations, Steven Hasso, and the Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Akin Fakorede, accusing both of compromising the state’s security for partisan reasons.

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Police Force said it redeployed Wike’s CSO, DSP Promise Nwosu, for taking part in a political rally organised by the All Progressives Congress.

“The active presence of the CSO to the governor in a partisan crowd of an opposition party to the governor in a clandestine and suspicious manner was considered mischievous and detrimental to the security of the state and public order and also contrary to his oath of office which constitute an offence against discipline.

“The CSO to the governor, when challenged by a superior officer demonstrated brazen indiscipline and showed disrespect to the senior officer, exhibiting conduct that violates all known norms of the force.

“Accordingly, the CSO was officially queried for discreditable conduct, insubordination, engaging in partisan political activities, illegal duty and act unbecoming of a public officer,” the Force Public Relations Officer, Donald Awunah said in a statement he issued.
