Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Wilfred Agbonavbare is hit by cancer, about three years after his wife died from the same affliction.

The ex-international who is hospitalized in Spain (pictured on his sick bed with a former colleague) deputized for goalkeeper Peter Rufai in the Super Eagles in 1994 Nations Cup, which the team won and the 1994 World Cup in US.

He later ended his football career in Spain where he played for several clubs in the Segunda Division.

Narrating his chilling story to another ex-international, the 49-year-old said he lost his job after coming down with cancer, the same disease that took his wife’s life three years back.

He said, “I was relieved of my job after I was diagnosed with cancer. My wife died of breast cancer three years ago and when she was diagnosed with breast cancer I spent all the money I made playing professional football on her medical bills to keep her treatment uninterrupted. Consequently, I had to send my three children to Nigeria because of my lethal health condition.”Wilfred-Agbonavbare-Rayo

The Edo-born former footballer(pictured right) had received treatment for five months in a hospital in Tampa, Florida in US before he relocated back to Spain due to financial constraint.
