Yahaya’s appointment: 45 generals face forced retirement

Following the appointment of Major Gen. Farouk Yahaya as new Chief of Army Staff (CAOS) not less than 45 army generals would be made to leave the service.

Their imminent retirement is hinged on the fact that the affected generals are Yahaya’s seniors in the service.

The immediate past COAS, late Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in an ill-fated Nigerian Airforce aircraft attended the course 35 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, while the new Sheriff was in the course 37.

Report said those who graduated from NDA ahead of Yahaya, particularly Attahiru’s course mates would be forced into retirement.

The new Chief of Army Staff (CAOS) until his appointment was Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI.

Born on January 5, 1966 in Sifawa, he hails from Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State. He was granted regular combatant commission as a member of 37 regular course on 22 September 1990 in the rank of Second Lieutenant with seniority in the same rank effective September 27, 1985.  He is of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Masters’ Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy.
