A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said that bandits, terrorists and their cohorts are better armed than the Nigerian military.
He stated this while speaking on Channel TV’s Politics Today on Monday night.
Babachir, who served under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, expressed dismay that the insurgents are enjoying funding and have enormous resources at their disposal to unleash mayhem on Nigerians and even attack the military.
The former SGF, who spoke on the topic ‘National Security and Recent Diplomatic Twist’, said the insurgents have taken steps ahead of the military by using drones to attack military bases, killing soldiers in the process.
He said, “Is it not that they are from one single tribe or religion? Is it not amazing? Is it not amazing that they have sufficient armament at their disposal?… that they kill and maim and burn? Is it not amazing that somebody somewhere must be funding them?
“The resources at their disposal are so enormous that all the time, they are better armed than the soldiers. What they don’t have these days is that they are yet to acquire helicopters and bomb and bomb us. But we do hear these days that they also use drones.
“If it’s just a primitive, uneducated bush-living Fulani man that is out for… how does it get the knowledge? They don’t call their own people to order. If one of you goes bad and you don’t call him to order, you don’t check him. If my son goes out to cause mayhem and I don’t call him to order, if they say my own family is involved, you are right,” the former SGF added.
