The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said to have a hand in the rumoured-failed coup and consequently arrested was on Thursday sighted in public.
Ogbuku, according to unofficial and unverified account, is in trouble for providing fund for the prosecution of the failed coup through ex-governor of Bayelsa State Timipre Sylva whose Abuja residence was raided by Defence Intelligence Agency officers.
During the raid, the ex-governor’s brother and driver were arrested and have been in detention.
The narrative around Ogbuku’s involvement in the rumoured coup was that a total sum of N45bn belonging to NDDC and meant for the coup prosecution was routed to Sylva and some connected to him under the table for onward transmission to the so-called coup plotters.
Amid his rumoured arrest, the NDDC boss attended a meeting with agricultural stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event which was televisied live, during it, Ogbuku delivered a speech in which he urged stakeholders in the region to begin a conscious shift from dependence on crude oil to a diversified economy anchored on agriculture, stressing that agriculture remains the most viable path to achieving food security, job creation, and sustainable regional development.
“The Niger Delta must look beyond oil, agriculture holds the key to our economic transformation and long-term stability.
“Through collaborative planning and targeted investments, we can unlock the enormous potential of our farmlands and create sustainable livelihoods for our people,” he said.
