The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has cried out, alleging that efforts are in place to impeach him due to his refusal to dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Remember that the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, dumped the PDP alongside members of the state executive council and House of Assembly.
Their next destinations is believed to be the All Progressives Congress going by prevailing behavioural pattern of political office holders.
In a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ewhrudjakpo charged the Bayelsa State House of Assembly with plot to sack him for failing to defect to APC.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/221/2025, the Deputy governor said the members of the Assembly were under pressure to remove him from office because he refused to resign from the PDP like them and Governor Diri.
The plaintiff also claimed that some local government chairpersons, including Alice Tange of Sagbama LGA, were in the same boat with him.
He alleged that the affected chairpersons were equally facing removal threats for same reasons.
Ewhrudjakpo’s prayers to the court are interim orders, and restraining the state Assembly from initiating or conducting any impeachment proceedings against him for remaining in the PDP.
He is also asking the court to restrain the assembly from recognising or dealing with any member of the All Progressives Congress as the deputy governor of Bayelsa State.
The matter is before Justice Emeka Nwite who has ordered the defendants to appear before the court to show cause why the interim orders sought by the plaintiff should not be granted.
The defendants listed in the suit are the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, its Speaker, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Bayelsa State Attorney-General, the State Chief Judge, and the Clerk of the Assembly.
The case was adjourned until November 13 for the defendants to show cause, after which the court will proceed to hear the motion on notice.
