Leading presidential hopeful for the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, has led protesters to the National Assembly over the controversial election result transmission bill.
Recall that the decision of the Senate to retain the discretionary provision that enables the Independent National Electoral Commission to determine mode of transmitting election results in the electoral bill instead of real-time electronic transmission of results sparked public outrage.
A threat to protest at the National Assembly on Monday over the Senate’s decision was made good on Monday.
The protesters that included, Aisha Yesufu, a popular activist, were led by Obi.
“We have suffered the danger. We don’t want any glitch again. We want things to go well. Allow the elections to go through the normal process. Whoever wins, we would accept. So, why are you bringing this confusion?”Obi stated at the protest ground.
At the scene, security forces comprising mainly of the police with Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps as well as other paramilitary agencies stationed their vans around as their men manned strategic locations to ensure order.
