The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has begun an undergraduate programme at Northwest University, Kano.
Sanusi, a PhD holder, is in the university to study law and enrolled at 200 level.
The former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria was captured on camera in class at the institution during lecture with his younger colleagues.
In the pictures making the rounds he is seeing seated in the class with fellow undergraduates wearing a black long gown with a white turban.
Reports that accompanied the pictures said the Emir sat at the back in class on a three-seater.
Established in 2012, Northwest University is one of the two universities owned by Kano state government.
