Fayose was on his way to the airport when the accident happened around 2.00pm, inward Airport Road near LASTMA’s headquarters.

According to eyewitnesses, the governor was in the vehicle when it suddenly caught fire, he scampered for safety and hurriedly left the scene(pictured) in another car in his convoy leaving behind the driver of a G-Class and the car in his convoy to salvage the situation.

After men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and traffic officials with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority put off the fire, the driver who put on a Fez cap was reportedly seen packing some burnt naira notes and other items in the car.

However, a statement by Fayose’s Special Assistant on New Media and Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, on Wednesday, denied the governor was in the burnt car.

It said, “There was an accident involving the governor’s vehicle on his way to the airport yesterday.

“Though he was meant to be in the vehicle, by providence, he was not there.

“What caused the sudden fire under the vehicle is yet to be ascertained.

“The governor is grateful to God that no casualty was recorded. He also thanked the people who made spirited efforts to put out the fire.”
