The suspension of selection process for the new Awujale of Ijebu land by Ogun State government has received commendation from Fuji musician, and controversial aspirant to the stool, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall also known as KWAM1.

The state government on Wednesday ordered the suspension citing flood of petitions received from security agencies and other stakeholders.

The order which didn’t sit well in some quarters prompted comments alleging the government of interference and attempt to impose a preferred candidate.

It has however drawn approval from the singer via his counsel, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN.

In a letter dated January 21, 2026, addressed to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and signed by his lawyer, the singer also urged the government to ensure that no eligible contender is excluded when the process resumes.

“We respectfully urge the Ogun State Government that, upon the resumption of the Awujale selection process, such process should be all-inclusive, transparent and fair, and should consciously eschew any act or omission capable of excluding or disenfranchising our client. An inclusive process will promote unity within Ijebuland, enhance public confidence, and further entrench the prestige and legitimacy of the Awujale stool,” the letter read in part.
