Opral Benson, widow of Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Culture in the first post-independence government, T.O.S Benson, who was reported to have gone missing in Lagos has been found.
Opral is the Iya Oge of Lagos. Her hitherto unknown whereabouts since January 13 was made public on Sunday by her family.
The announcement proved rewarding as the 90 years old was found in Liberia where originally she is from.
Her finding was announced by her daughter, Bimbo, in a heartfelt message, where she expressed gratitude to those who assisted in tracking her mother’s whereabouts.
Bimbo, however, expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding her mother’s movement out of Nigeria without the knowledge of the family.
The African Refugees Foundation (AREF) also confirmed that Benson, who serves as its president, is alive, safe and not missing.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of AREF, Olujimi Olusola, said Benson is “hale and hearty” and that there was no cause for alarm. He said her presence in Liberia was voluntary and known to relevant parties.
