Members of House of Representatives have called for the sack of Comptroller-General of Prisons, Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu after he watched his aide slapped one of their colleagues, Hon. Onyemaechi Mrakpor within the National Assembly complex.
The CGP had on Wednesday at the National Assembly appeared before the Uzoma Nkem-Abonta-led Public Petition Committee over allegation of fraud leveled against him by an officer, and was driving out of the legislative building at the time the female lawmaker from Delta State, Hon. Onyemachi Mrukpor was equally driving out of the premises and she overtook his convoy close to the exit gate.
Hon. Mrukpor’s overtaking of the CGP’s convoy angered his officers, who called her unprintable names. One of them allegedly slapped her.
Reacting to the incident on the floor of the House on Thursday, the lawmakers summoned the CGP and called for his immediate sack.
The House also summoned officers of Department of State Service, Nigeria Police; Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Commission, and Sergeant-at-Arms, who were said to be watching when the alleged assault took place in the presence of the Prisons Comptroller-General.
