Chief Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to embattled ex-governor Timipre Sylva, has rationalised the rumoured attribution of reported coup plot to his principal.

Sylva is being mentioned to have a hand in alleged plot to topple the government of President Bola Tinubu, with 16 military officers, among them a Brigadier-General currently in detention and facing probe.

The former minister of state for Petroleum, according to unofficially reports, provided funds for the successless coup plot which the government and military authorities have denied its occurrence.

On Wednesday the Abuja residence of the former Bayelsa governor was raided, an incident his media aide confirmed.

In the confirmation, Bokoru said that the ex-minister’s younger brother and driver were arrested and yet to be released.

Distancing Sylva from the coup plot funding attributed to him, Bokoru said the ex-governor’s ordeal was politically engineered by his adversaries due to his governorship ambition.

“It is the handiwork of people in the state APC who are concerned about their governorship ambition in 2027.

“Those doing this are in the state APC. It is about the 2027 governorship ambition. They are appointees of the Federal Government and instead of focusing on their work, they are playing local toxic politics.

“Such wicked politicians took their desperation to a nauseating level following Sylva’s intimidating political presence and credibility that had continued to expose their self-serving ambitions and evil agenda,” he told Punchng.
