Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has attributed plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling APC to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Rumour is rife that Adeleke who was elected on the platform of the PDP is working towards moving to APC with picture of him, his billionaire brother, Adedeji Adeleke, and the latter’s musician son, Davido, with President Bola Tinubu at the latter’s residence in Lagos during the recent Sallah festival lending credence to the report.
It has also divided opinions in Osun State.
Omisore, also a former Deputy governor of the state, has now had a share in the conversation.
While appearing as guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday, the APC chieftain alleged that Adeleke’s plan to join the ruling party was allegedly driven by fear of losing re-election as the state governorship is scheduled for August, 2026.
He expressed reservations about the manner the governor was going about his defection plan, alleging him of abandoning the state chapter of the party and lobbying external forces.
“APC is not divided in Osun State. I’m not saying Adeleke cannot join the party. He has the constitutional right to associate with any party, but it is not by going to look for friendship in Ogun or Abuja to join the Osun APC. You can not be meeting Governor Dapo Abiodun to anchor you into our party.
“Politics is very local, and you have to know the tenets and local structure of a party that you are joining. If he must join us, he has to start from the grassroots,” he remarked.
